Write On! Youth Drama Prizes

After the amazing success of the Write On! Fiction & Poetry Prizes this past summer, we are now holding the first ever Write On! Youth Drama Prizes for young writers ages 19 and under. 

• Write On! Books is excited to branch out and publish Dancing With The Pen Onstage, our first collection of short plays geared specifically for young audiences.
• This is currently slated to be an online publication, but depending on the number and quality of submissions, it might become a printed book!
• After recently teaching a creative writing class for teens focused on scriptwriting, and searching for material to use in class, Write On! Books founder Dallas Woodburn noticed a severe lack of interesting, imaginative, current plays for young audiences. Dancing With The Pen Onstage will not only be a wonderful read — these pieces will leap into drama classrooms and theater departments around the world!

…and you can win prize money, books, a free coaching call with Dallas… and you might even become a published writer! Read below for the rules and submission procedures. We can’t wait to read your work!

Prizes are:

• First place: $50, a free 30-minute coaching call with Dallas, and publication in Dancing With The Pen Onstage
• Second place: $25 and publication of your work in Dancing With The Pen Onstage
• Third place: $10 and publication of your work in Dancing With The Pen Onstage
• Finalists: publication of your work in Dancing With The Pen Onstage

Rules:

• This contest is for young writers ages 19 and under.
• This contest is judged BLIND, which means no identifying information should be on your entry. Please submit your name, age and contact information in the body of your email. If your name is included on your entry, it will be disqualified.
• Word limit: plays should be 10 pages or less and must follow proper play format. (If you are unsure about proper play format, here is an example.)
• There is a $10 entry fee for each piece, or you can submit 3 entries for $25. This helps fund the prizes and the administration costs.
• All entrants have the option to purchase a copy of Dancing With The Pen II: a collection of today’s best youth writing at the special discounted price of $15, rather than its cover price of $25.
• You may submit as many entries as you would like, as long as you pay the entry fee for each piece you submit.
• The contest deadline is midnight Pacific Standard Time on February 28, 2018 March 31, 2018.

HOW TO ENTER:

• Email your play, pasted into the body of an email, to dallaswoodburn <AT> gmail <DOT> com.
• In the body of the email, please include your name, age, phone number, and mailing address.
• Pay your entry fee using the PayPal button below.
